Keiichiro Kawai
Keiichiro Kawai is a doctoral candidate at the Institute. He obtained the degree of Bachelor of Law in 2020 and the degree of Master of Law in 2022 from Kyoto University, Japan. In 2021, he won the award for excellence of the 8th Sigeru Oda Award (1st place in that year), a student article competition held by the Japanese Society of International Law.
Mr. Kawai has been a member of the Institute since December 2022. His doctoral work is on the discursive structure constituting the legal milieu of the International Criminal Court with a focus on the institution’s nature as an international organization under international law.
His research interests lie generally in the field of public international law, and particularly in international organizations law, international criminal law, and the law of international responsibility.
He is a member of the Cologne Center for Advanced Studies in International History and Law.

Dissertation under the title of “International Criminal Court as an International Organization: A structuralist inquiry into the secret canopy of the institution”.
