Gökey Saracyakupoglu

Gökey Saracyakupoglu got his Bachelor’s degree from Ankara University Faculty of Law in 2019; after that, he was accepted to the LL.M. Program in Public Law at Hacettepe University Faculty of Law. In the meantime, he graduated from Anadolu University Faculty of Economics International Relations Program. In 2022, he completed the LL.M. program with his thesis “Abuse of Rights in International Law of the Sea and Its Implications in The Context of International Treaties” with magna cum laude degree. His LL.M. thesis, which was published by Nobel Academic Publisher under the name of “Prohibition of Abuse of Rights in International Law of the Sea” (ISBN: 978-625-433-982-0) (in Turkish) in the same year, put Art. 300 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea under the spotlight.

Saracyakupoglu began his Ph.D. in the Summer Term of 2023 under the supervision of Prof. Kreß at IIPSL. His thesis will elucidate the legality of maritime law enforcement activities by coastal states in disputed maritime areas, which the international judiciary has been encountering for several years. As a problem of maritime criminal jurisdiction, in the thesis, this area of the international law of the sea will be scrutinized in all its parts.

Gokey Saracyakupoglu has been an attorney at law since 2021 and is a member of Ankara Bar Association in Türkiye.

He is a member of the Cologne Center for Advanced Studies in International History and Law.
