Anan Alsheikh Haidar
Dr. Anan Alsheikh Haidar is a research fellow at the Institute for International Peace and Security Law at the University of Cologne. Previously, she served as a Phillipp Schwartz fellow at the institute from July 2016 to December 2018. She is a member of the International Law Association’s Committee on the Use of Force: Military Assistance on Request, and the Editorial Committee of the Journal of International Criminal Justice (JICJ).
Dr. Haidar commenced her academic journey at the Faculty of Law of the University of Damascus, Syria, where she obtained her Diploma in Law in 2000. Continuing her pursuit of legal knowledge, she pursued her Master of Laws (LL.M) in Advanced Legal Studies as a Chevening scholar at the School of Law, the University of Reading, UK, graduating in 2005. This was followed by her Ph.D. in Law in 2010, focusing on the principal subjects of International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law, and International Security Studies.
From 2010 to 2014, Dr. Haidar served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law at Damascus. She also contributed to the educational landscape as a faculty member of the Syrian Virtual University. Additionally, Dr. Haidar is admitted to practice as a solicitor in Syria.
She is a member of the Cologne Center for Advanced Studies in International History and Law.
