Amira Kan'an
Amira Kan'an joined the Institute for International Peace and Security Law as a Research Assistant in July 2024. She previously studied German and French law in Cologne and Paris. During her Master’s degree at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Sciences Po Paris and the Columbia Law School, she focused on the intersection of international economic law and human rights. While in New York, she worked as a research assistant to Professor George A. Bermann and Dr. Kabir Duggal researching into the consideration of human rights by arbitral tribunals in investment law proceedings.
Amira Kan’an gained experience in dispute resolution through her work at an international law firm in Paris and at the Legal Service of the European Commission. She also completed internships in the Human Rights Unit of the German Federal Ministry of Justice and at the Gesellschaft für Freiheitsrechte e.V. Since 2019, she has been actively involved in the mandate department of the Refugee Law Clinic Cologne e.V.
Moreover, Amira Kan'an is particularly interested in the various forms of international adjudication, public international law as well as the international law of peace and security.
She is a member of the Cologne Center for Advanced Studies in International History and Law.
