Rohit Gupta
Rohit Gupta ist ein in Indien zugelassener Rechtsanwalt sowie externer Doktorand unter der Betreuung von Prof. Claus Kreß am Institut für Friedenssicherungsrecht der Universität zu Köln. Seinen integrierten juristischen Abschluss (B.A. LL.B. (Hons.)) schloss er 2023 mit der Auszeichnung “Gold Medal” an der West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences in Kolkata, Indien, ab. Im Jahr 2024 erwarb er zudem einen LL.M. im Internationalen Recht mit Auszeichnung (summa cum laude) am Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Genf, Schweiz.
Er wurde sowohl mit dem Promotionsstipendium für besonders begabte Studierende der Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit als auch mit einem Promotionsstipendium der Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes ausgezeichnet und wird derzeit von letzterer gefördert.
In seiner Forschung beschäftigt sich Herr Gupta mit der strafrechtlichen Verfolgung von Kriegsverbrechen gegen die natürliche Umwelt in nationalen Strafrechtssystemen, insbesondere in Deutschland, der Ukraine und Kolumbien. Im Sommersemester 2026 absolvierte er einen Forschungsaufenthalt an der Essex Law School der University of Essex unter der Betreuung von Prof. Matthew Gillett. Neben dem internationalen Strafrecht liegen seine weiteren Forschungsschwerpunkte im humanitären Völkerrecht, im internationalen Umweltrecht, im Weltraumrecht sowie im allgemeinen Völkerrecht.
Unter anderem ist Herr Gupta Fellow am Centre for International Law Research and Policy, Redaktionsassistent beim Torkel Opsahl Academic EPublisher, stellvertretender Koordinator von Lexsitus (einer frei zugänglichen, mehrsprachigen E-Learning-Plattform zum internationalen Strafrecht), Berichterstatter für die Oxford Reports on International Criminal Law sowie externer Rechtsexperte für Umweltverbrechen bei Truth Hounds, einer in der Ukraine ansässigen NGO. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied des Cologne Center for Advanced Studies in International History and Law.
